Description
The Limoncello liqueur was born on the Amalfi Coast in the early 1900s, in a small guesthouse on the Isola Azzurra, where Mrs. Maria Antonia Farace took care of a lush garden of lemons and oranges. After the war, her nephew opened a restaurant business right near Axel Munthe’s villa. The specialty of that bar was the lemon liqueur made with grandmother’s ancient recipe.
Bottles of limoncello are nowadays present on the shelves of overseas markets, and new important commercial scenarios are developing on Asian markets. Limoncello, therefore, really risks becoming a world-class product on a par with Bitter or Amaretto.
The Garda Lemons used by Cappelletti in the preparation of this Limoncello are characterized by a round shape, aromatic fragrance rich in essential oils, and a very thin peel, perfect for use in culinary preparations.
Lemons were brought from the Ligurian Riviera to the shores of Lake Garda in the 13th century by the friars of the convent of San Francesco di Gargnano.
Thus the lemon groves on Garda flourished, with their multi-storey structure connected by stone stairs, closed by a massive wall.
These are agricultural buildings that are a real attraction for visitors passionate about food and wine tourism who visit the area, as they constitute a testimony to the past of the place, as well as a historical and architectural heritage.
In the last years of the last century the ancient lemon groves were restored. Splendid greenhouse gardens that enrich the Brescia side of the lake, made of walls and white pillars that climb into the mountain, in total harmony with the environment. A characteristic touch of the Mediterranean in the north-west of Italy.
Among the most famous is Pra dela fam, a small strip of land where a lemon garden was later built, few kilometers from the city of Limone sul Garda.
Also important is the Tesöl lemon house, to which the river of the same name brought water, followed by the Castèl lemon house and that of Villa Borghi.
Those who want to do food and wine tourism in Lombardy cannot miss a visit to these parts, both for the beauty of the landscape and the goodness of the lemons produced by these coastal lands.
Cappelletti’s fruit liqueurs have a taste for tradition and are characterized by fresh juice from top selection fruit so as to maintain the real and genuine flavours of yesteryear. The synergy between traditional handcraft and modern techniques ensures the creation of products of a high level of quality.
Barbastel imports and distributes Cappelletti in Poland.
