GORREANA – Orange Pekoe 100 g – Tea from Azores Islands – Portugal

36,20

Orange Pekoe black tea is made exclusively from the final bud of the plant and its first leaves.  It has a beautiful color, a round aroma with caramel tones and a delicate fragrance.  The delicate and young leaves are harvested only at the beginning of the harvest season in late March, April and May.  This is a specific time of year when optimal humidity and air temperature occur.  The result is a high-quality, clear, copper-coloured brew with a distinctive flavour and fruity aroma, perfect for adding charm and life to your afternoon tea moments.

Description

Chá Gorreana Tea Plantation is a traditional family business with over 135 years of success.  It is located on the northern coast of the island of São Miguel in the Azores, amidst lush greenery.  The special microclimate of this region of the island – constant high humidity with year-round frost-free temperatures, plus at least one “shower” every day – is ideal for the tea plant, a species of Chinese camellia (“Camellia sinensis”) .

All Gorreana teas are completely organic as they are pesticide free.  It’s a whole new quality that makes us fall more and more in love with this European unique tea with every sip.

Ordinary plant pests are not found here – in the middle of the Atlantic.  This geographical remoteness has made it possible to grow tea that requires no pesticides, herbicides or fungicides.  Annoying weeds are eaten by goats who – thankfully – don’t like tea leaves…

Nor is there any special protection from the salty Atlantic winds, as the tea plant has adapted genetically over time here – the plantation has always replanted its own seedlings rather than new varieties.
